Clubs

Art Showcase provides an opportunity for creative students to develop and create art works for the North Carolina Art Showcase competition.  Media categories include painting, drawing, collage, photography, and other creative efforts.

All artists who attend an interest meeting at Crossroads are welcome; however only one student can compete for Crossroads per competition media.  All members are expected to produce at least one work in any of seven media categories and adhere to NCASA guidelines for their medium.  Materials cannot be guaranteed for members.  Competitors will be chosen through an in-school showcase and members will be able to vote for the competing work; a student cannot compete in more than one media category beyond the school level.  Meeting schedule TBD once NCASA releases due dates for this year. 

Grecthyn Bedard is the faculty adviser for Art Showcase.

Each school year the North Carolina School Library Media Association puts together a reading competition for students in grades 4-12. Through the program, schools form individual teams of students who read books on the required reading list then work together to answer questions in a Quiz-bowl style competition.  To learn more about the Crossroads BOB team see their website. 

BOB is opent to all students and meets on Mondays as outlined on our website.  Meetings are from 3:15 - 4:00 in York's classroom A318.   Students joining BOB must maintain an A/B average in all courses. 

Dare York is the faculty adviser for Battle of the Books.

Beta Club is a club that promotes the ideals of academic achievement, character, service and leadership.  Members will be involved in service and leadership activities that will better our school  and our community.   Students are invited to become members if they meet the following quailifications: 3.7 GPA and no discipline refferals. New members must pay $40 (at the time of induction), and returning members pay a yearly fee of $5 (at the beginning of the school year). To maintain membership , students must attend meetings , held during lunch, and complete 14 service hours per year. 

Lindsey McGee and Alba Lopez are the faculty advisers for Beta Club.  

This club is a place for all those interested in knowing and growing a realtionship with Christ. All students are welcome. Meetings take place each Wednesday during lunch  in room A311.

Alicia Slaughter is the faculty adviser for this club.

This club is geared toward students who are considering pursuing a major in Life Science or just have an interest in anatomy. We will explore anatomy and physiology by dissecting a variety of different organisms from multiple animal groups.  Club meetings take place on the third Thrusday of each month after school.  The fee to join is $25  and must be paid online. Participation is limited to the first 40 members.

The faculty adviser for Dissection Club is Dr. Juliet Wilson.

Do you love video games?  Would you be interested in playing video games on a competitive school team?  Are you interested in winning college scholarships or cash prizes through competitive, ESports tournaments?  Are you interested in playing in gaming tournaments?    Considering joining our Esports team.  Emails are sent out each semester with information for registering for fall and spring competition.  

Ken Eichberg is the faculty adviser for ESports.

Future Business Leaders of America is a national non-profit Career & Technical Student Organization that inspires and prepares students to become community-minded business leaders in a global society through relevant career preparation and leadership experiences.

Crossroads students participate in regional, state, and national competitions.  We also have several community service projects throughout the year. Students learn valuable teamwork, communication and leadership skills.  To learn more about FBLA visit their website.

To participate in FBLA students must:

• Pay $20 in dues (includes a local, state, and national dues).
• Be in a business course or interested in the field of business.

Additional requirements are required for awards and graduate cords.

FBLA meets every 5th Friday during lunch block and the 3rd of 4th Tuesday of the month after school from 3:20 - 4:20pm.      A complete list of activities are available on the FBLA website. 

Tracy Skeens is the faculty adviser for FBLA.

FBLA's programs focus on:

Leadership Development—members develop essential soft skills by holding chapter officer positions at the local, state, and national levels; by networking with accomplished business professionals; and by participating in business-focused workshops, seminars, and academic competitions.

Academic Competitions—members demonstrate their business expertise at high-profile regional, state, and national competitive events. The top students are recognized with trophies and cash awards. 

Educational Programs—members create career portfolios, enhance their knowledge with world-recognized skills certifications, and have access to select college scholarships. 

Membership Benefits—members receive exclusive discounts and enhanced benefits for travel, education, and more.

Community Service—members work within our school and community to collect needed supplies, volunteer in our school, and in our community. 

Awards & Recognition—members build a portfolio of accomplishments with a wide range of awards programs. 

Gaming club is an opportunity for students to hang out and have fun together playing board games, video games, card games, and role-playing games.  Club members will have an opportunity to play multi and single player games while spending time discussing gaming strategies.  Gaming club is for avid game players as well as students who are beginners and interested in learning more about various types of games. 

Meetings take place after school every other Tuesday in room A322.

Interact is a Rotary-sponsored service club that gives students an opportunity to particiapte in fun and meaningful service projects while developing leadership skills and meeting new friends. The basic principle of the Rotary Interact is to help others. 

Meetings are monthly during the school day or at lunch. Communication to club members is done through email and in-person meetings. 

The purpose of Student Council is to promote positive relations among students, faculty, administration, and community.  Student Council is to assist in the management of social affairs, extracurricular activities, provide a forum for students’ opinions, promote scholarship, promote responsible leaders and followers, provide needed services for the school, and to teach democracy through experience.  

We host several events for Crossroads including Homecoming, annual talent show, and Spirit week. We also commit time to service projects to help better the school and community. Elections for Student Body Officers (Executive Board) are held each year.   We also encourage nonelected members to join.  

Students are required to attend an informational meeting and complete the interest form which outlines basic requirement for members. This is due the 3rd or 4th week of August each year.

 Gretchyn Bedard is the faculty advisers for Student Council.

The Technology Student Association (TSA) is a national non-profit career and technical student organization (CTSO) of middle and high school students engaged in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Today, over 300,000 students participate in TSA’s competitions, intracurricular activities, leadership opportunities, and community service.

Vision

The Technology Student Association is accelerating student achievement and supporting teachers by providing engaging opportunities to develop STEM skills. 

Crossroads TSA chapter will meet in conjunction with our FBLA chapter and have the opportunity for regular community service and skills development. Members will also be able to compete at regional, state, and national conferences. 

To participate in TSA students must:

• Pay $25 in dues (includes a local, state, and national dues).
• Be in a STEM course or interested in a career in a STEM related area (Computer Science, Graphic Design, etc.)

The Crossroads Writing Club is open to all students and to all genres of writing. In addition to honing creative writing skills, students will submit their work to various writing competitions such as the NCASA Quill competion and publish their work in the Crossroads Literary & Arts Magzine.  See the Crossroads Writing Club website for more information.

Dare York is the faculty adviser for Inkers.

Yearbooks club is for students who are interested in writing, photography, graphic design, and/or art. It gives students the opportunity to use their skills and creativity to create a yearbook that captures the school year for themselves and their school community. Yearbook staff members will sell ads, take pictures, and complete yearbook pages. 

The club is by application only. If you are accepted you will be contacted by the adviser.  Yearbook meets every 5th Friday during lunch. Additional meetings may be scheduled throught the month based on deadline requirements.
