Clubs

Each school year the North Carolina School Library Media Association puts together a reading competition for students in grades 4-12. Through the program, schools form individual teams of students who read books on the required reading list then work together to answer questions in a Quiz-bowl style competition. 

Dare York is the faculty adviser for Battle of the Books.

Beta Club is a club that promotes the ideals of academic achievement, character, service and leadership.  Members will be involved in service and leadership activities that will better our school  and our community.  Students are eligible to participate in a variety  of competitions at the regional, state and national levels.  Scholarships are available for Beta Club members. Students become members by invitation only according to their academic accomplishments.  We will meet 1-2 times a month. 

Lindsey McGee and Alba Lopez are the faculty advisers for Beta Club.  

Students will come to learn, teach, and play chess. There will be a varieyt of activities for all skill levels. Students will complete puzzles and discuss diferent strategies. Meetings will take place 1-2 times per month both virtually and in person.

Edward Holbrook is the faculty adviser for Chess Club.

Do you love video games?  Would you be interested in playing video games on a competitive school team?  Are you interested in winning college scholarships or cash prizes through competitive, ESports tournaments?  Are you interested in playing in gaming tournaments?    Considering joining our Esports team.  Emails are sent out each semester with information for registering for fall and spring competition.  

Ken Eichberg is the faculty adviser for ESports.

Future Business Leaders of America inspires and prepares students to become community-minded business leaders in a global society through relevant career preparation and leadership experiences.

Crossroads students participate in regional, state, and national competitions.  We also have several community service projects throughout the year.

During meetings students will get help with resumes, job interview skills, and learn valuable leadership skills.  To learn more about FBLA visit their website.

To participate in FBLA students must:

• Pay $20 in dues (includes a local, state, and national dues).
• Be in a business course or interested in the field of business.

Additional requirements are required for awards and graduate cords.

FBLA-PBL’s programs focus on:

Leadership Development—members develop essential soft skills by holding chapter officer positions at the local, state, and national levels; by networking with accomplished business professionals; and by participating in business-focused workshops, seminars, and academic competitions.

Academic Competitions—members demonstrate their business expertise at high-profile regional, state, and national competitive events. The top students are recognized with trophies and cash awards. 

Educational Programs—members create career portfolios, enhance their knowledge with world-recognized skills certifications, and have access to select college scholarships. 

Membership Benefits—members receive exclusive discounts and enhanced benefits for travel, education, and more.

Community Service—members work with the March of Dimes to help end premature births by participating in awareness campaigns and the March for Babies fundraiser. 

Awards & Recognition—members build a portfolio of accomplishments with a wide range of awards programs. 

Gaming club is an opportunity for students to hang out and have fun together playing board games, video games, card games, and role-playing games.  Club members will have an opportunity to play multi and single player games while spending time discussing gaming strategies.  Gaming club is for avid game players as well as students who are beginners and interested in learning more about various types of games.

Interact is a Rotary-sponsored service club that gives young people an opportunity to participate in fun and meaningful service projects while developing leadership skills and meeting new friends. The basic principle of the Rotary Interact is to help others.

 Learn to harness the power of words and bring your story life.  Join your peers and set your imagination and creativity free in the Crossroads Writing Club - Inkers.  You can write for fun or train to compete in local, regional, state and national competitions.  Writing workshops will meet 1-2 times a month in both virtual and live settings. 

Dare York is the faculty adviser for Inkers.

This club is open to all students at Crossroads and meetings will be held 1-2 times per month.  The purpose of this club will be to discover where science can take you in the future.  You will learn about careers in science and the academic paths to get there.  We plan to shadow scientists in action in different professional settings and take field trips to colleges to learn more about majors and opportunities for you.

Melissa Simmons is the adviser for Science Friday.

The purpose of Student Council is to promote positive relations among students, faculty, administration, and community.  Student Council is to assist in the management of social affairs, extracurricular activities, provide a forum for students’ opinions, promote scholarship, promote responsible leaders and followers, provide needed services for the school, and to teach democracy through experience.  

We host several events for Crossroads including Homecoming, annual talent show, and Spirit week. We also commit time to service projects to help better the school and community. Elections for Student Body Officers (Executive Board) are held each year.   We also encourage nonelected members to join.  

  Gretchyn Bedard is the faculty advisers for Student Council.

The Crossroads yearbook is completed each year through our yearbook club. Yearbook meetings will take place during school in Mrs. Slaughter's room.

To participate in yearbook students must:

• Have a recommendation from a recent teacher or have succesfully served on yearbook at Crossroads previously
• Attend at least 1 meeting per month
• Be able to meet deadlines consistently
• Be able to work independently

Students at Crossroads are dual enrolled at Mitchell Community College.  This means students are also able to take part in clubs at Mitchell.  Please see their webpage for details.
