Poetry Outloud

What is Poetry Out Loud (POL)?
Poetry Out Loud is a national competition that focuses on poetry memorization and recitation. It is a
pyramid-style competition (see “How does Poetry Out Loud work?” below for more information). POL is
funded by the National Endowment for the Arts through the North Carolina Arts Council. You can find

Who is eligible to participate in Poetry Out Loud?
All HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS (those in 9th-12th grades) are eligible to participate in Poetry Out Loud
at the classroom and county level. This includes students who are in public, private, and charter
schools, and those who are homeschooled.
